Interstate 70 reconstruction in downtown Zanesville - This project will reconstruct I-70 though the city of Zanesville, resurface I-70 between U.S. 40 and State Route 93. Full reconstruction will begin west of the Licking Road overpass, including the Maple Avenue ramps and Maple Avenue at the end of the ramps, and end east of the abandoned railroad overpass. The project also impacts 16 bridges in the area.

Continued impacts:

• The 7th Street exit ramp is closed to traffic.
• The Underwood Street eastbound on-ramp is open to traffic. Underwood traffic patterns have been restored to normal conditions. 
• The I-70 EB passing lane operates like an express lane. This means that once motorists enter the express lane after U.S. 40 (exit 152), they will be unable to exit until SR 93.
• The I-70 EB driving lane is also in contra-flow, however, this lane will be the only lane with access to downtown Zanesville.
• In the phase 2 configuration, if the contractor must take a lane at night, the EB driving lane will close, and the only access to downtown from I-70 EB will be U.S. 40 (exit 152) and SR 93. 
• The Maple Avenue flyover ramp and the 6th Street on-ramp to I-70 WB will remain closed during Phase 2 construction for safety reasons.

State Route 666 Tree Trimming - This project is for the removal of trees along SR 666 between Culbertson Road and SR 208.

Continued Impacts:

• The roadway is closed to traffic during daytime hours and will re-open Tuesday, April 1. Detour: SR 666 to SR 60 to SR 208 to SR 666 and reverse.

State Route 666 Slide Repair - This project will repair the embankment along SR 666 between Buckeye Drive and Neil Avenue.

Continued Impacts:

• The roadway closed to traffic Monday, March 24 and will re-open to traffic Friday, March 28. Detour: SR 666 to SR 60 to SR 208 to SR 666 and reverse.

State Route 146 Slope Repair - This project will involve rehabilitation of rock slope and improvement of roadside ditch on State Route 146 just east of the Herron Road intersection. 

Continued Impacts:

• One lane of traffic will be maintained with a flagging operation as needed for tree clearing. 

State Route 16 Bridge Preservation - This project will replace bridge decking on SR 16 South of Adams Mills just west of Burvil Rd.

Continued impacts: One-lane of alternating traffic is maintained utilizing temporary signal. 

Roadwork Updates for State Routes 93 and 669

Major improvements are underway on two key routes in the area, with construction projects expected to impact local traffic through next summer.

State Route 93 Widening and Resurfacing

Work continues on State Route 93, where crews are widening and resurfacing the pavement from the New Lexington corporation limit to the Hocking County line. To accommodate ongoing repairs, one lane of two-way traffic is being maintained through a flagging operation. Drivers are advised to plan for potential delays. The project is scheduled for completion by Summer 2025.

State Route 669 Resurfacing

Meanwhile, a resurfacing project is set to begin on State Route 669, stretching from the Morgan County line to State Route 93. Starting Monday, April 28, traffic will be reduced to one lane, with a flagging operation managing two-way flow. Motorists should exercise caution and be prepared for temporary stops along the route.

Local officials encourage patience and extra travel time while these important infrastructure improvements are underway.
