In the summer of 2018, my son, at 15 years old, started Crooksville News, following in my footsteps after I had started a similar page.
As Crooksville News grew, I began to pay more attention to my son’s page. Ryan Chevalier was posting photos of old houses and sharing pictures of where he parked his bicycle, gaining a following from content like this. After 500 people began following Crooksville News, I, Rocky Chevalier Sr., started making posts myself about Crooksville. Once the page reached roughly 700 to 800 followers, I began to take the content more seriously. When we hit 1,000 followers, I largely took over the page myself, and Ryan no longer posted content. Since then, the page has been run solely by me, with the help of my family.
My primary focus is to report on what the City Council, administration office, fire department, and police department are doing. I have also expanded into covering other areas around the county, and one major achievement was organizing and hosting the first Sheriff’s debate in February 2024.
With the support of residents in Crooksville and the surrounding areas of Perry County, Crooksville News is dedicated to publishing quality, fact-based content and will continue striving to improve, even as mistakes happen.
