Opportunities for Local Residents
Perry County residents living with disabilities now have an opportunity to receive financial support aimed at fostering independence and community involvement.
Capabilities Charitable Fund, Inc. (CCF), a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping individuals with disabilities, is offering mini-grants ranging from $50 to $500 to assist with a variety of personal and professional needs.
“These mini-grants are small in size but big in impact,” said Jon Kozesky, Executive Director of CCF. “They can mean the difference between being isolated and being fully engaged in community life.”
The grants can be used for numerous purposes, including work-related expenses such as uniforms, tools, and training; mobility equipment; accessibility improvements; recreational or educational participation costs; and transportation needs.
Funding will be awarded on a rolling basis until all available resources are distributed.

Program Impact in Perry County
When asked about the program’s reach, Kozesky shared that CCF has assisted 16 people so far in 2025, 8 people in 2024, and 29 people between 2023 and 2025. Each grant has helped make a tangible difference in the lives of Perry County residents.
“Our grant funding has helped individuals attend educational conferences, purchase adaptive equipment like seizure helmets and mobility aids, and obtain tools such as laptops for self-employment,” Kozesky said.
“It has also enabled participation in community activities and programs, including season passes to a local dinner theater, which fosters inclusion, confidence, and independence.”

Common Areas of Support
CCF’s funding categories typically focus on several key areas:
• Employment support: Preparation, coaching, training, tools, and equipment
• Recreation and education inclusion: Transportation and participation costs
• Employer assistance and self-employment development
• Vehicle and mobility accessibility: Including adaptive equipment
• Temporary basic needs assistance: For those unable to work due to health issues

Addressing Hidden Barriers
Kozesky emphasized that people with disabilities in Perry County often face financial barriers that many residents may not realize.
“Many individuals struggle to afford uniforms, tools, and transportation, which limits their ability to work or engage in the community,” he explained.
According to the Health Policy Institute of Ohio’s 2023 Health Value Dashboard, individuals with disabilities are 3.3 times more likely to face difficulty finding employment compared to those without disabilities.
“CCF is familiar with these challenges and works to reduce these barriers through our mini-grants,” Kozesky added.

Looking Ahead
While these grants are primarily offered as one-time awards to maximize the number of recipients, Kozesky said repeat applications may be considered if additional funding is available.
“We plan to continue providing grants in Perry County due to the ongoing need and hope to sustain funding opportunities into the future,” he noted.
