Crooksville Council Prioritizes Responsible Budgeting and Public Safety

Crooksville, OH – November 3, 2025

The Crooksville Village Council met Monday evening with a clear theme in mind: keeping government efficient and ensuring taxpayer dollars are handled responsibly.

With Council President Mr. Hampton presiding in the mayor’s absence, members swiftly approved the Fiscal Officer’s minutes and financial reports—steps that reaffirmed the village’s commitment to transparency in spending.

A series of financial resolutions followed, all passing unanimously. These included fund transfers, Star Ohio investment management, reallocations, and payroll approvals. Such actions may seem routine, but they reflect a continued effort to run a lean, accountable local government.

One of the most notable budget-conscious decisions came when Mayor Mohler located a potential EMS squad online—a 2008 International Horton listed for just $12,500, a fraction of the cost of a new unit. Council approved the purchase pending inspection, demonstrating a willingness to stretch taxpayer dollars while still supporting first responders.

Council also discussed public safety concerns raised about unstable trees on Cahalan and Winter Streets. Members agreed the trees should be removed before they cause damage or injury.

Crooksville Moves to Strengthen Fire & EMS Operations

Crooksville, OH – November 3, 2025

Crooksville’s council meeting on November 3rd centered heavily on the needs of the village’s Fire and EMS departments—services many residents rely on.

Council approved the first reading of a new Fire/EMS Participation Policy, a move aimed at reinforcing expectations and accountability within the department. The policy is intended to strengthen reliability and ensure that those serving the public remain consistently engaged.

In a practical effort to improve emergency response without straining the budget, Mayor Mohler identified a used squad available for only $12,500. Council approved the purchase pending a final inspection, recognizing the importance of getting functional equipment into service without burdening taxpayers with excessive spending.

The vote reflected broad support for first responders and a desire to ensure they have the tools they need to protect the community.

Residents’ Concerns Prompt Action in Crooksville Council Meeting

Crooksville, OH – November 3, 2025

A theme of responsiveness defined the November 3rd council meeting in Crooksville, where council members worked together to confront practical issues affecting daily life.

Fire Chief Dyrall Newlon raised the alarm about a tree on Cahalan Street leaning into the roadway. Councilman Redfern reported another dangerously unstable tree on Winter Street. In a time when some communities struggle to get timely responses from local governments, Crooksville’s council agreed quickly that both trees should be removed.

Beyond infrastructure concerns, the council approved multiple financial measures to keep the village running efficiently—including fund transfers, payroll approvals, and reallocations that help maintain essential services without unnecessary spending.
